Transferable Ballot

This is an explanation of the way that the candidate will be chosen in the Comox Valley BC Liberal race. It should be exciting as there are apparently now 600 members in the riding. There were just over 100 that showed to vote at the NDPs candidate selection meeting...

Wikipedia: The contingent vote is an electoral system used to elect a single winner, in which the voter ranks the candidates in order of preference. In an election, if no candidate receives an absolute majority of first preference votes, then all but the two leading candidates are eliminated and there is a second count. In the second count the votes of those who supported eliminated candidates are distributed among the two remaining candidates,(that is, their 2nd or 3rd choices) so that one candidate achieves an absolute majority.
I believe that the BC Liberals eliminate the bottom one and go from there. This description is the closest that I have found to match with what I've been able to glean at various meetings.

A CLEAR CHOICE

OUR CHOICES OF WHO TO SUPPORT:

CONSERVATIVE

LIB - NDP - TRAITORS

Liberal, NDP, Bloc Coalition: It is becoming clear that these men have no plan, no clue, are being fiscally destructive, and bound (in writing! ) to consult with and satisfy separatist traitors on matters that will affect all Canadians. These guys are prepared to sacrifice the progress (fiscally) that all Canadians have worked so hard on the last 12 years. They want to not only run a deficit - but one with a plan (if you can call it that)that will destroy our finances - and quite possibly the unity -- of our nation.

National Post: The incongruities of the coalition are becoming more apparent by the day. We have no idea how Mr. Dion is going to come up with a stimulus package more quickly than the massed ranks in the Department of Finance, who are toiling to complete the next budget in time for the end of January.
There are no details of what will be in it, beyond the fact that it will cost $30-billion, a figure TD Bank chief economist Don Drummond says will drive Canada into a structural, prolonged deficit. It sounds very much like the coalition has not worked out what the country needs — it has merely picked a big number and will now decide how to spend it.

But Mr. Dion said leaders could not say when stimulus details would be revealed, or how much the plan would cost, arguing they do not yet know when they would take power and have not seen the country's hidden fiscal details.

National Post Harper speaking: Mr. Speaker in an internal letter today the BQ leader says the coalition the will take control of control of the administration of the federal state. We will have the creation of a mechanism of permanent consultation empowering the BQ on every matter of importance notably concerning the adoption of the budget."This Prime Minister, this government, this party has never and will never sign a document like that."

If these things concern you, please click here to let your MP and the leaders of the 4 parties know .
